New England Air Museum Hosts Helicopter Open Cockpit on Father's Day

The special experience will feature over 20 helicopters and equipment from the Museum's extensive collection, including many that are not normally available to the public.

May 30, 2019 -- Celebrate Father's Day, Sunday, June 16, at the New England Air Museum's second ever Helicopter Open Cockpit Day. The special experience will feature over 20 helicopters and equipment from the Museum's extensive collection, including many that are not normally available to the public. Several of the helicopters will be open for tours and there will be experts on hand to explain the aircraft and their operation.

The program runs from 10 AM to 3 PM, with with the Museum remaining open until 5 PM. At 12:30 Daniel Libertino, President of Sikorsky Historical Archives, will give a brief presentation of the history of Sikorsky Aircraft.

The Museum has helicopters from the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Coast Guard and from the civilian world. The helicopters include the 22,000 pound CH-54 Tarhe, sometimes called the Skycrane, the Huey, the Cobra, a Navy drone, an award winning manpowered helicopter, and many others. 

All activities for the day are included in the price of admission. Sneakers or rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Food will be available for purchase from Kane's Market, on a cash only basis.

The New England Air Museum is located in Windsor Locks, Conn., adjacent to Bradley International Airport. Museum admission is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors (ages 65+), $10 for youth (ages 4-14), children 3 and under are free.
