Big, Bigger, Biggest—2016 WAI Conference Set to Break Records
With a record number of exhibitors and robust pre-registration, the 27th annual International Women in Aviation Conference, which will be held March 10-12, 2016, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, is shaping up to be the biggest conference to date.
The exhibit hall will host a record 164 companies and organizations, including 29 that will be exhibiting for the first time. AOPA’s Rusty Pilot Seminar, scheduled for Friday, March 11, and open to the public, has over 70 advanced registrations. Girls in Aviation Day – Nashville, being held on March 12, already has over 100 participants registered, with attendance expected to reach 225 including contingents of local Girl Scouts, groups from the Nashville area schools, and a group of girls from Louisville, Kentucky, sponsored by the Association of Women in Aviation Maintenance.
“There’s particular excitement about this year’s conference. We have an incredibly full schedule,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “We will have events and activities of interest to attendees in every segment of aviation.”
Other 2016 International Women in Aviation Conference highlights include:
• Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Coast Guard Aviation
• A roster of spectacular speakers ranging from FAA Administrator Michael Huerta to Tracey Curtis-Taylor, the adventurer who recently retraced Amy Johnson’s 1930 flight from the UK to Australia
• The $10 Million Banquet on Saturday to commemorate $10 million in WAI scholarships given since the scholarship program began 20 years ago
• Dozens of seminars, workshops, networking events, social events, and tours for every interest
“We are still adding more events to the agenda so this year’s conference is one not to be missed,” adds Dr. Chabrian.
