Each year, The Work Ethic Scholarship Program recognizes deserving individuals who understand the value of trade skills and careers. Elise Krause of Pasadena, Maryland, who will begin her training at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) Hagerstown in the fall, was a recipient of the Work Ethic Scholarship this year.

Krause will receive a $7,500 scholarship to help with costs associated with earning her Airframe & Powerplant Certification. She begins her education on Aug. 31.

Krause began her higher education at a local community college studying Russian. Her part-time job exposed Krause to changing tires and oil at a local shop and inspired her search for a more hands-on career.

Krause expressed, “If I could only do this job as a profession, working with my hands. So, I started to research trade schools and came upon PIA.”

After completing the admissions process, Krause was encouraged to apply for the scholarship and ultimately took the “S.W.E.A.T. Pledge.” Her dedication to hard work and personal responsibility resulted in her receipt of the award.

The Mike Rowe Work Ethic Scholarship Program is designed to recognize people who understand the importance of work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, and a positive attitude. The program has awarded more than $5 million to 1,000 hardworking men and women who will keep the lights on, water running, and air flowing.
