Aviation Institute of Maintenance to Hold “Beat the Heat” Student Bottled Water Drive Benefiting The Salvation Army
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (July 20, 2015) — “Beat the Heat” is on for the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) for their inaugural water drive aimed at helping those in need. July 27-August 14, AIM students will be conducting this bottled water drive for the benefit of assisting The Salvation Army serving Southern Nevada.
During these hot summer months, the need for water to help those in our community in need is crucial. To help combat this need, AIM’s “Beat the Heat” drive will collect bottles and cases of water from students with a classroom competition.
Talking about the success her students strive for, Niki Donahue, Executive Director of AIM says, “Las Vegas is a community that comes together in caring for those in need and we’re a part of that community. This is an opportunity for our students to be successful in coming together and actively participate in helping those in our community that are in need.” AIM is the only FAA approved A&P mechanic school in the State of Nevada.
The Salvation Army serves about 2,000 bottles of water a day throughout the summer. Among those served are the homeless, low income families and seniors. The Salvation Army’s site at 35 W. Owens also serves as one of the community’s cooling stations.
“Most of us can't remember the last time we were really in need of water. To some, it might be just a bottle of water, but to those we serve, its life. In the extreme heat of the Las Vegas summer months, a bottle of water gives relief and hope.” Says Phillip Hollon, Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army.
