Honolulu Community College is the only college in the Pacific with an aircraft maintenance program, and has been awarded 95 Federal Aviation Administration certificates in the past five years.

The program was designed to bring in more workers to Hawaiian’s growing team of more than 250 aircraft mechanics. With more than 6,000 employees, the airline is the one of the state’s largest employers.

“We see this as an important opportunity to keep local students fully engaged in an industry that’s very important to the Hawaii community,” Jim Landers, vice president of Hawaiian Airlines, said in a news release.
