ALB: TSA Checkpoint to Open Earlier

June 10, 2016

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has changed the time its security checkpoint opens each morning at Albany International Airport.

The change was made to accommodate the anticipated increase in summer air travel. The TSA security checkpoint will now open at 3:15 a.m. each morning. Previously, the checkpoint opened at 4 a.m.

The new opening time will also help accommodate revised flight schedules that now include aircraft departures at 5:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

“Albany International Airport passenger traffic increased by 5.5 percent in 2015 and is already running 10 percent higher in 2016,” said Rev. Kenneth Doyle, chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority. “Opening the TSA checkpoint earlier each day will help reduce checkpoint wait times that tend to occur as passenger loads swell during peak travel times and the early morning crunch period.”

Albany International Airport recommends that passengers arrive at their ticket counters no later than 90 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of their flights.

Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines have also revised their operating times at Albany. The Southwest Airlines ticket counter will now open at 3:!5 a.m. to accommodate a 5:15 a.m. departure and Delta Air Lines will open its ticket counter at 3:30 a.m. to accommodate passengers that depart on 5:30 a.m. a flight.
