MILWAUKEE —The substance leaking at Milwaukee's Mitchell International airport has been identified as jet fuel coming from a failed valve on an underground line.
Airport spokesman Harold Mester released a statement Tuesday morning that said a valve failed near Gate E69. The fuel hydrant has been shut off and the leak has been stopped.
Water containment booms were spotted in a culvert across the street from the airport, a sign that crews expanded their attempts to contain the jet fuel from spreading.
