The St. Joseph County Airport Authority has named Patrick Mac Carthaigh as Vice President of Operations. In this role, Mac Carthaigh will oversee the planning, leading, organizing, staffing and overall day-to-day operations and safety functions of the South Bend International Airport (SBN). He will begin his position on July 11, 2022.

An accomplished aviation professional, Mac Carthaigh most recently worked for the Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) as Operations Manager. In that position, he was responsible for the overall management and direction of MLB’s Part 139 program including day-to-day supervision of the operations and maintenance of the airfield, terminal, commercial business and fleet. He also served as Airfield Supervisor and Passenger Services Supervisor/Airfield Operation Agent for MLB.

"I am incredibly excited to join the South Bend team,” said Mac Carthaigh. “I've always kept my eye on South Bend as my career has progressed. Having gone to school in South Bend, flying in and out of SBN through the years and even proposing to my wife in the SBN terminal, this feels like a bit of a homecoming for me. They have such a talented and engaging team of professionals that I am looking forward to working with and learning from. Again, I just cannot be more excited or appreciative for the opportunity.”

Mac Carthaigh earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Holy Cross College and went on to receive a master’s degree in Aviation from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is also a Certified Member (C.M.) of the American Association of Airport Executives.
