Riga Airport Starts the Year with a Passenger Increase

Operational data on airport performance in the first month of the year show that this January, Riga International Airport handled 246,000 passengers, or almost five times more than a year before.

The two largest passenger carriers in January were the national airline airBaltic with 49.9% or almost 122,000 passengers and the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair, which carried 73,400 passengers or 29.8 % of the total number of passengers to and from Riga.  

The air cargo turnover at Riga Airport in January reached 2,449 tonnes, which is an increase of 28% as compared to January 2021. About two-thirds of the total cargo volume is carried by cargo flights, and one-third – by passenger aircraft. 

Last month, 3 886 aircraft arrived and departed at Riga Airport, of which 3,158 were passenger, 234 cargo and 494 business, military, technical and other flights.
