This was an increase of 129.7 percent compared to September 2020. By comparison, the September 2021 passenger count was 24.8 percent less than September 2019. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 73.1 percent compared to last year with 5,438,808 total passengers handled, and down 31.3 percent from 2019 year-to-date figures.
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 40.9 percent in September with a total of 23.8 million pounds handled. Year to date, 172.6 million pounds have been handled, up 33.9 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during September amounted to 23.6 million pounds, up 42.0 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is up 34.9 percent with a total of 171.2 million pounds handled. Air mail for September was down 34.6 percent from September 2020 with 149,618 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2021 is down 29.1 percent from 2020 with 1.4 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for September 2021 was 129. Service was offered to 43 nonstop markets. There was an average of 31,940 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 7 daily departures for September.
