Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), for the 18th consecutive year, has been recognized as the most efficient airport in the world as determined by the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS).
ATRS, the world’s leading academic society in the air transportation field, determines the award by measuring and comparing the operational and management efficiency, cost competitiveness, and financial performances for more than 200 airports worldwide. The ATRS Airport Benchmarking Task Force includes leading professors and researchers from around the world.
“With unprecedented challenges impacting travel throughout the world, 2020 was an unprecedented year,” said Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari. “ATL’s No. 1 priority is providing a safe and efficient experience for the traveling public, so receive the society’s 2021 top efficiency award is truly a distinguished honor.”
As airports worldwide embark on their recovery journey from the dramatic downturn caused by COVID-19, efficiency is particularly of vital importance.
The award was announced at the 2021 ATRS Global Airport Efficiency Award ceremonies, which was held virtually Aug. 27.
