Southwest Expands Hawaii Service at Oakland International

Jan. 22, 2020

Adding to its existing service to the Hawaiian islands of Oahu and Maui, Southwest Airlines has added two new long-haul destinations at Oakland International Airport (OAK). Nonstop flights to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii commenced service Sunday, January 19, and Lihue, Kauai, launched just yesterday.

Service to Kona (KOA) operates four times weekly – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Service to Lihue (LIH) flies three times weekly, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Both routes will operate daily beginning March 7, 2020.

Southwest launched its long-awaited Hawaii service in March 2019 to both Honolulu, Oahu and Kahului, Maui.

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis, said, “OAK is incredibly pleased to join our partners at Southwest in offering this expanded service to the Hawaiian Islands. As the very first mainland airport to offer Southwest’s service to Hawaii, each evolution of this greatly anticipated service is a value added for our customers.”

Southwest’s warm weather destinations from Oakland will increase yet again when service to the popular Mexico Beach markets of Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and San José del Cabo (SJD) in Mexico resumes on March 6th, 2020.

This spring, OAK will have as many as six daily non-stops to Hawaii on Southwest, and up to 13 daily including flights on Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines.
