It’s a new record! More than 4.1 million people have flown in and out of Charleston International Airport so far this year.
“Our success is thanks to the continued support from our customers and from our airlines whose commitment to providing great destinations and expanded air service is unmatched,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “New airlines give our customers more choices for nonstop travel and help spur new passenger growth that benefits all our air carriers.”
In November, just over 400,000 people flew in and out of the airport, pushing the count for the year to date to 4,124,370. The 2018 year-end total will be available next month.
Topping 4 million passengers is a significant milestone for CHS, which has experienced growth in all areas of its business operations alongside growth in the region’s tourism, business and manufacturing sectors.
In 2018, two new air carriers – Allegiant and Frontier – began offering flights alongside existing carriers American, Delta, Southwest, JetBlue, United, and Alaska airlines. On April 4, South Carolina’s first international flight between Charleston and London will take to the skies aboard British Airways.
In addition to new air carriers, existing airlines have contributed to the airport's growth by replacing smaller aircraft with larger planes seating 100-plus passengers and by adding new destinations and additional routes to cities they serve.
