LaGuardia Airport Permanently Moves Pick-Up Location for All Terminal B Car Services

May 4, 2018
The new indoor pick-up area within a short walk of Terminal B replaces the temporary pick-up location for all car services at Terminal B, which required passengers to take a shuttle bus at most times of the day to accommodate construction activity.

As part of the $8 billion construction of the new LaGuardia Airport, all passengers arriving at Terminal B seeking ground transportation from black cars, Uber, Lyft or other ride-hail services can access them via a short walk starting at 6AM Saturday, May 5.

All car services will pick-up Terminal B passengers on the second level of the new Terminal B parking garage, which opened earlier this year. Passengers can reach the designated pick-up area directly from the departures level through a temporary, covered walkway that connects to Level 2 of the garage. Enhanced signage throughout the terminal, along the walkway connector, and in the garage will direct passengers to the new area. Port Authority staff will be on hand during the transition to provide assistance.

“We are pleased that this construction milestone will make it easier for passengers arriving at Terminal B to find their car service driver,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “We thank passengers for their patience as they continue to navigate the impact of construction. This construction project ultimately will yield a complete redevelopment and modernization of LaGuardia Airport. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, LaGuardia will be the first entirely new airport built in the U.S. in more than 20 years.”

The new indoor pick-up area within a short walk of Terminal B replaces the temporary pick-up location for all car services at Terminal B, which required passengers to take a shuttle bus at most times of the day to accommodate construction activity. In order to meet the demand of travelers arriving at LaGuardia, the new designated area has more than 200 spaces for cars to queue, and more than 50 loading spaces for passengers to meet their driver. The new garage, which has over 3,000 total parking spots, offers a complimentary first hour to accommodate black car and ride-hail drivers.

Departing passengers will continue to be dropped off at the terminal frontage as usual. Current passenger pick-up and drop-off areas for Terminals A, C and D will remain the same.

In July 2015, Governor Cuomo unveiled the vision for a comprehensive development of LaGuardia Airport. The $8 billion project, 80 percent of which is funded through private financing and existing passenger fees, will create a unified, 21st century terminal system. It is a complex, multi-phased project, requiring the construction of a new airport on top of an existing one while keeping it fully operational. The project includes a new Terminal B, which will serve Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest and United; a new Delta Air Lines Terminal C replacing the current Terminals C and D; an improved roadway system; new parking infrastructure and other associated projects. The first new terminal area, Terminal B’s Concourse B, is expected to open later this year.
