Philadelphia International Airport is pleased to announce the installation of its first Mamava suite for nursing mothers who are traveling.
The Mamava suite, located post-security in Terminal F, is a self-contained, mobile pod available at no charge, with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump, and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is accessible and designed for individual use, but can fit more than one person, including mothers with babies and luggage.
The Mamava app (free for iOS and Android) showcases the location of every Mamava suite and notifies users when they’re in the immediate vicinity of a pod. If a mother finds a Mamava location she can use the app to “unlock” the room, which operates via Bluetooth technology. Once the mother is inside the pod and locks the dead bolt, the pod registers as “in use” on the app. Also displayed on the map in the app is over 1200 other Mamava recommended pumping-friendly places, including Minute Suites at Philadelphia International Airport.
Since 2015, PHL has accommodated nursing mothers through a partnership with Minute Suites, which remains in effect. Minutes Suites, located on the A-B connector, provides private rooms for breastfeeding and expressing milk at no charge for the first 30 minutes.
“We are proud to provide another place where traveling mothers can breast feed and pump milk for their children,” said Airport CEO Chellie Cameron. “The purpose of this pod is to offer a clean, comfortable, and stress-free environment for this special group of passengers.
