Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport announced that it has welcomed its 21 millionth passenger for 2017, continuing its rapid year-by-year growth since opening in 2001.
In celebration of this milestone, T4 employees delighted passengers with special gifts such as gift cards, insulated water bottles and travel bags, courtesy of the terminal. At the center of the Retail Lounge, the 21 millionth passenger was awarded a new iPad.
“Terminal 4’s unprecedented growth over the past several years is a remarkable feat – one that could not have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of thousands of employees who work each and every day to constantly improve the passenger experience,” said Gert-Jan de Graaff, president and CEO of JFKIAT, the company which operates Terminal 4. “More than 15 years ago, we began operations with just over four million passengers. Now, as we welcome more than 21 million passengers per year, I am grateful for everyone who has made this achievement possible and look forward to seeing what the future holds for Terminal 4 in the years to come.”
One of six active terminals at JFK, Terminal 4 accounts for nearly one-third of all traffic at one of the world’s largest airports. In the past year alone, Terminal 4 has welcomed three new airlines, several retail stores and infrastructure improvements. As the premiere gateway to New York City, Terminal 4 will continue to undergo enhancements in the years ahead to accommodate even more passengers and provide them with the best travel experience possible.
Terminal 4's expansive retail lounge – with more than 122,200 square feet devoted to shopping and dining features 48 retail shops and 28 restaurants – offers an unparalleled shopping experience for travelers with a wide range of retail options from chic, upscale boutiques, to convenience stores, electronics, accessories and gifts. The terminal actively gives back to the community by promoting its ‘4GOOD’ philanthropic and sustainability program which encourages social change, well-being, and environmental stewardship.
