SAT Reaches New Heights with September Passenger Counts

Nov. 9, 2016

September statistics for SAT represent another record high in passenger statistics for the airport. September passenger traffic posted a 7.4 percent increase over September 2015, while calendar year-to-date (CYTD) saw an increase of 1.4 percent over the previous year.

In September, SAT served 683,488 total passengers, the highest September on record and the third consecutive record month. The calendar year-to-date total of 6,406,657 passengers also represents the largest volume handled through any September on record.

Domestic traffic for the month was up 8.1 percent compared to September 2015, buoyed by increases from all domestic carriers.

September experienced a 6.7 percent decline in international traffic, a significant reduction in the rate of decline from previous months. This reflects several changes in the market since 2015, including the discontinuation of VivaAerobus flights to Monterrey, scheduled reductions of service to Mexico City by Aeromėxico and schedule adjustments by United to Cancun.

In September, total air cargo increased 6.2 percent year-over-year to an estimated more than 20 million pounds. CYTD total cargo increased versus the same period in 2015 to more than 175 million pounds, or 2.6 percent.
