May 6—A Hawaiian Airlines aircraft remained grounded in San Francisco on Monday following a passenger boarding bridge collapse last week.
The incident, which caused damage to the plane, occurred at Gate A1 at approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, according to Doug Yakel, spokesperson for San Francisco International Airport.
He added that the "structural failure" of the bridge happened just before the deplaning process began, and all passengers and crew members safely disembarked from the 6-year-old Airbus A321neo, registered as N216HA.
There were no reported injuries. However, the return flight was canceled due to the incident.
The aircraft sustained damage to its front left-hand door. Yakel said the passenger boarding bridge was out of service for investigation and repairs.
As of Monday morning, aviation records indicate that the aircraft was still grounded in San Francisco.
Hawaiian Airlines typically operates Flight HA42, a daily service from Kahului to San Francisco using Airbus A321neos. The flight usually departs Maui at 10:45 a.m. and arrives in San Francisco around 6:50 p.m., with a flight time of just over five hours.
