May 21—San Francisco International Airport evacuated passengers from an area in Terminal 2 for at least 90 minutes Sunday afternoon after an abandoned item — later identified as an unattended bag — was found.
City police officers responded to the Terminal 2 food court area to remove the item and cleared the D Gate area out of an abundance of caution, SFO tweeted shortly before 1 p.m. The issue was resolved by about 2:30 p.m., the airport tweeted in an update. Employees were starting to return, and passengers were expected to be cleared shortly thereafter.
SFO spokesperson Denise Baylor said the item was a bag that had been left unattended in the terminal, which serves domestic flights. The airport was working with the Police Department to determine whether it had been claimed, she said.
