Paris — A strike at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport caused several cancellations and delays to flights on Thursday.

A quarter of the flights due to run between 7 am ( 0500 GMT) and 2 pm have been cancelled, an airport spokesperson told dpa. According to broadcasters BFM TV, this corresponds to about 100 flights.

Due to demonstrations, access to the airport was also difficult, the spokesperson said.

On its website, operator Aéroports de Paris advised people to arrive at the airport at least three hours before international flights and warned on Twitter about disruptions also at the Orly airport.

Several trade unions had called for the strike, demanding a salary increase of €300 ($321.49).

Laurent Dahyot of the CGT union told France Info that many airport workers were struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month because of inflation.

According to the report, the strike could last beyond Thursday.
