Long Beach Airport Celebrates New Ticketing Facility

April 28, 2022

Apr. 27—Long Beach Airport cut the ribbon on its new ticketing lobby on Wednesday, April 27, hailing the facility as making passenger check-in more efficient.

The facility, which opens to customers on Wednesday, May 4, is 16,700 square feet and features both common-use ticket counters and self-service kiosks, allowing flexibility depending on the flight schedule.

The ticketing lobby building cost $26 million. An improved bag checking/screening process connects to a new $25.5 million checked baggage inspection system for efficiency and accuracy.

These improvements are less than half of the $110 million Phase II terminal improvement program. Next on the agenda is a new, consolidated baggage claim facility, which is scheduled to open later this year.

Then the original terminal, where ticketing services and administrative offices have been located, is scheduled for a seismic refit and refurbishment. Eventually, the plan is to relocate rental car operations inside that terminal.

Mayor Robert Garcia, City Manager Tom Modica and airport Director Cynthia Guidry spoke during the ribbon cutting.

The airport will host a public open house at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event will include food and entertainment. Parking will be free.
