Moscow — Due to the war in Ukraine, Russian authorities are extending the flight bans in the south of Russia until March 20.

The airports in the major city of Krasnodar and in the city of Anapa on the Black Sea will remain closed, the operating company Aerodinamika announced on Friday, according to the Interfax agency.

The airports of Gelendzhik and Rostov-on-Don were also still affected by airspace restrictions, it said. In the city of Sochi on the Black Sea, which is popular with tourists, air traffic initially continued, according to official information.

After the invasion of neighbouring Ukraine on February 24, Russia initially closed more than 10 airports in southern Russia until March 2. Later, the flight ban was extended until March 14.
