Feb. 16—Iran needs 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) to accelerate and complete the construction of a new terminal at Shiraz International Airport in the Fars Province (southern Iran), Director General of the Fars Province Airports Department Gholamreza Karim Aghaei said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

According to Aghaei, there is a 53-percent physical progress in the construction of the terminal, which began in 2015. The terminal is being built in three storeys on the 23,000-square-meter of land for international flights.

"Due to the proximity of the Fars Province to the countries around the Persian Gulf, the number of flights at Shiraz International Airport is increasing. This requires the construction and launch of a new terminal," he added.

The director general noted that daily 80 domestic flights and 12 international flights were carried out from the Shiraz International Airport, which is considered the 3rd largest international airport in Iran.

In total, 20,517 flights (passenger planes only) were carried out from Iran's Shiraz International Airport within the first 9 months of the current Iranian year ( March 21 through December 21, 2021).

Meanwhile, 1,573,204 passengers and 17,192 tons of cargo were transported through the airport for the reporting period. — Follow the author on Twitter:@BaghishovElnur
