TRAVERSE CITY, MI – A Northern Michigan airport saw a record number of passengers in 2021.

Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City saw a record 602,626 total passengers, Northwest Regional Airport Authority officials announced this month. CEO Kevin Klein said the “amazing” year was driven by an “exceptional summer season.”

Cherry Capital changed significantly in 2021 due to multiple renovations and additions to the airport including new inline security screening equipment, faster free internet, and a new jet bridge.

More changes are coming in 2022 as well, including the construction of an additional 424 auto parking lot spaces and new 40,000-gallon jet fuel storage tanks.

2021′s traffic broke the airport’s 2019 record of 579,712 passengers. The airport offers non-stop flights to and from 17 destinations across the United States.

Cherry Capital Airport has been a travel option for Northern Michigan residents and visitors since 1938. American, Delta, United and Allegiant airlines operate at the facility.
