Tuguegarao Airport's Great Potential Cited

Sept. 28, 2021

Sep. 27—TUGUEGARAO CITY — With the planned construction of an international airport in Cagayan province, the Tuguegarao City Airport could become the new city site here, according to Gov. Manuel Mamba.

" The Tuguegarao City Airport has a great potential to become a new city site also especially with the reopening of the Port of Aparri," Mamba said.

He also said during the Regional Development Council meeting the provincial government has a lot of infrastructure projects including the construction of an international airport on the tri-boundary of Piat, Amulung and Tuao towns.

"We think the domestic airport of Tuguegarao City cannot be an international airport because its land area is too small for such a category of an airport," Mamba noted.

"Once the Port of Aparri is reopened, it will be better to make the Tuguegarao airport as the new city site, which will serve as the financial, commercial and residential center of this city," he said.

He added this Northern Cagayan Valley city can be developed through new ways and innovations that are more beneficial to the people.

Mamba explained he wants to make the province more attractive to investors including Tuguegarao and other towns as the reopening of the port in Aparri town is expected to bring more development to the province.

"We need to maximize the infrastructure that we build. Here, we must look at safety, strategic location and commercial value," he said.

"It is a great opportunity for Tuguegarao to let its domestic airport become a new city site as the provincial government is planning to set up an international airport that will be of greater benefit to various provinces in Region 2 and neighboring provinces in the Cordilleras," Mamba added.
