Iran Opens Second Airport in Kurdistan Province

Jul. 22—TEHRAN, Iran — Iran opened the Saqqez airport (first phase) in its Kurdistan Province on July 21, Trend reports via Fars news agency.

"A test flight to this airport took place on Wednesday," Kurdistan Province's Governor Bahman Moradnia said at the opening ceremony.

The Director General of Kurdistan Airports Amir Abbas Nazarizadeh also stated that the construction process of Saqqez airport was delayed due to lack of funding, but during the past few years, the situation normalized.

The runway length of Saqqez Airport is 2.8 kilometers and the terminal area is 2,300 square meters.

The Saqqez city with a population of more than 226,000 people is the second most populous city in Kurdistan province. Kurdistan Province currently has an active airport in the city of Sanandaj.
