Taiwan to Restore Transit Services at Taoyuan International Airport

Feb. 24, 2021

Feb. 24—TAIPEI — Taiwan health authorities announced on Wednesday that airport transit services for foreign passengers will be restored — under certain conditions — and an entry ban on foreigners will also be eased from March 1.

Central Epidemic Control Center (CECC) chief and Health Minister Chen Shih-chung told reporters that transit arrangements at Taoyuan International Airport as well as border management rules will be returned to the system in place before January 1, when a strict programme to control Covid-19 took effect banning entry for all persons who do not hold Taiwan citizenship or residency, with some exceptions.

Travellers for entry or transit will be required to secure PCR tests three days prior to departure, among other stipulations.

Transit passengers must take the same airline from origin point through transit in Taoyuan to their final destination and can only spend eight hours in transit at the airport.

Taiwan, an island of 23.6 million people, has reported 947 Covid-19 cases, with nine virus-related deaths.
