Sep. 2--Over the last month, another nine Transportation Security Administration employees at Charlotte Douglas International Airport have reported testing positive for COVID-19.
A total of 33 TSA employees at CLT have reported testing positive for the coronavirus, including 27 who directly interact with travelers at screening stations.
In the most recent case reported to TSA, an employee worked at the B and C checkpoints at CLT during a nearly 8-hour shift on Aug. 25, according to TSA spokesman Mark Howell. That employee then reported testing positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 28.
Nationwide, 1,796 TSA employees have tested positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, and six have died.
TSA gave security checkpoints at CLT a COVID-19 upgrade in mid-August, installing 26 protective acrylic barriers.
And the airport itself received praise from U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Aug. 21, ahead of the Republican National Convention.
"Shout out to @CLTAirport," Adams tweeted. "They definitely are promoting public health measures and mask compliance was well over 90%! (definitely made me feel safer than in some other airports I've been in)."
