Jul. 26--Domestic and international flights via Larestan International Airport in Fars Province of Iran have increased, director general of Larestan International Airport, Aminollah Solati, Trend reports citing the Airport's official website

According to Solati, over the past two weeks, the flights have been carried out via airport to the countries around the Persian Gulf, mainly the UAE.

He added that seven of the 12 flights were operated last week, mainly by Qeshm Airlines.

The director general stressed that in total, 19 domestic and international flights were operated through Larestan Airport before the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Some 14 of these flights were operated to foreign countries, mainly to the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and other countries," he said.

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 286,500 people have been infected and 15,289 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 249,200 have reportedly recovered from the disease.

The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.

The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan -- which is an international transport hub -- began at a fish market in late December 2019.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
