Hanoi (dpa) – The international airports in Vietnam's two biggest cities - Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City - have stopped receiving passenger flights from South Korea, local media reported on Monday.

The ban began on March 1 and will continue indefinitely. Flights scheduled to arrive in Hanoi will be re-routed to Van Don Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province, while flights intended for Ho Chi Minh City will be sent to Can Tho Airport in the Mekong Delta, the reports said, citing a Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) decision from Friday.

Passengers on flights from outside affected areas such as the South Korean city of Daegu will be allowed to pass through customs. But all passengers will need to have their temperature checked and will be placed under quarantine, the reports said.

On Sunday, Van Don Airport received 369 passengers from South Korea, all of whom were placed under quarantine. A further 600 arrived at Can Tho Airport on three flights.
