Launch Time of Phase 2 of New Airport in Istanbul Revealed

The opening of the phase 2 of the new Istanbul Airport will be held in June this year, Trend reports referring to Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

The opening of the phase 2 of the airport will increase the number of passenger and cargo transportation.

The new Istanbul Airport served over 5.2 million passengers in January 2020.

Over 1.2 million passengers were served at the domestic flights, while over 4 million passengers - at the international flights.

During the reporting period, 35,089 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul Airport, 8,370 of which were domestic, while 26,719 were international.

The volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul Airport amounted to 142,388 tons in January 2020, of which 11,510 tons were domestic.

The new Istanbul Airport served over 52 million passengers in 2019.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
