Air travelers faced the prospect of delays and cancellations Wednesday as a sprawling storm system brought ice, snow and rain to the Northeast and Ohio Valley.
Airlines on Tuesday preemptively canceled hundreds of flights for Wednesday in an attempt to get ahead of the approaching storm. Most big carriers flying to the region had waived rebooking fees.
Nationwide, more than 800 flights had been canceled as of 7:05 a.m. ET, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware. Airlines made most of those Tuesday, though Wednesday's tally of canceled flights could grow as winter weather spreads across busy airports.
