NJ: Sussex Airport Revival Taking Flight Under New Ownership

March 21, 2017

WANTAGE -- The owner of Sussex Airport, speaking last week about his plans for the facility, described a lifelong romance with aviation dating back to his boyhood in Queens, N.Y., and Livingston that he hopes to continue nurturing among new generations for years to come.

"In my opinion, there is no greater feeling of freedom than to be able to get into an airplane and fly it," said Alan Antaki, a 49-year-old married father of three children. "That, in my opinion, is truly what it is to be an American. That is the perfect example of real freedom."

In its heyday under former owner Paul Styger, Sussex Airport played host to the annual Sussex Air Show, whose breathtaking acts of aerobatics and showmanship drew spectators from far and wide.

Antaki, in an interview held at his office at the airport on Friday, reiterated his commitment to bringing back the air show but conceded it will take some time for that to happen.
