Toilet Paper Trifecta: New Survey Reveals Americans Prefer Strength, Absorbency and Softness

July 17, 2019

Strength, absorbency and softness are the triple threat for toilet paper in public restrooms, according to a new survey from Sofidel, a leading global provider of paper for hygienic and domestic use. The Harris Poll survey, conducted online from July 1-3, 2019, surveyed 2,034 Americans ages 18 and older to determine the importance of various toilet paper features in public restrooms. Nine in 10 Americans value both strength and absorbency as very or somewhat important, while more than 4 in 5 (84 percent) consider softness to be very or somewhat important.

“Most Americans want sturdy yet soft toilet paper in public facilities, as this enhances the overall restroom experience,” said Giorgia Giove, Marketing Manager – Away from Home, Sofidel America. “Sofidel’s Papernet brand offers a toilet paper range that meets those key demands, fits into every budget and accommodates any level of foot traffic.”

The survey also revealed the importance of two additional toilet paper attributes:

79 percent of respondents said the ease of tearing the toilet paper at the perforation was somewhat or very important.

58 percent said the number of sheets per roll was somewhat or very important. This feature also reveals a generational split – 68 percent of those aged 18-34 consider sheets per roll as important, while only 52 percent of respondents over age 45 saw it as important.

Sofidel’s Papernet brand offers numerous toilet paper products to meet customers’ needs. Dry Tech toilet paper is developed using Through Air Dry technology to enhance softness and absorbency. Meanwhile, the Heavenly Soft Superior line provides luxurious, laminated toilet paper with a softer “at-home” look. Featuring designs like Micro, Circle & Leaf, Acorn and Wave, this range is ideal for high-end hotels, office buildings and restaurants.
