Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has received the technical and financial bids for the piling works for its new passenger terminal building, which are currently being reviewed by a specialist consultant, according to Bahrain's Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed.
The tender forms part of the BIA's estimated $1-billion airport modernisation programme.
The piling work will commence next month following the appointment of a contractor, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.
This follows the launch of the first and second enabling works contracts for the development.
The next batch of tenders to be awarded include the main construction works and infrastructure, the passenger airbridges, baggage handling systems, horizontal and vertical passenger transport system, information and communications technology and security screening equipment, according to the report.
For the passenger airbridges and the baggage handling tenders, the ministry has received four and three bids respectively, all of which are also being reviewed by the consulting company.
The shortlisted companies will be revealed in August.
The ministry will receive the technical bids for the remaining tenders next month and will announce the names of the awarded companies in October.
