Watch Out! The Guvmint Wants More Money
Well, I reckon the guvmint has finally decided to work on the deficit. As you know, it’s been spending more—a lot more—than it takes in every year.
Now the guvmint needs money, and there may be no entity in world history more dangerous than a guvmint that needs money. Lives there a citizen who has never found him/herself running close—maybe even short? Don’t we then look immediately at expenditures to see what we can cut out? But the guvmint, on the other hand, immediately looks for more money! Now, we find, the guvmint has decided that what they should do—among a jillion other such moves—is to raise the tax per ticket on airline fares. Make no mistake; this tax will be paid by America’s long-suffering airline passengers. Did you think the airlines would pay the tax? Naw, it will be added right to each ticket.
There will be much huffing and puffing about why this tax is fair, necessary, and a boon to humanity. Hogwash! This tax looks good to guvmint because travelers don’t vote as a bloc. That’s why we already pay absolutely outrageous taxes on rental cars and hotel rooms. Besides, everybody knows that travelers are rich elitists who live like kings. Whoever believes that has never sat in economy class of a packed airliner, I’ll guarantee you that.
This is just one more case of the guvmint upping its income by taking a little bit more of yours and mine.
