Jennifer Williams, P.E., has a passion for public service and has been working in local government since she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. She began her career with Charlotte’s Department of Transportation reviewing and approving land development plans along with analyzing and planning future transportation infrastructure needs in the community. She was the liaison for the Charlotte airport to help facilitate their land development permitting to support their expansion. An opportunity for the City of Houston led her to be the sole reviewer for all traffic impact studies within the city. An eager ambition to broaden her career in 2012 led her to aviation in Austin, Texas as a project manager with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).
She is currently a planning and development supervisor leading a team of architects, engineers, and planners to implement the new 20-year AUS Master Plan, which she managed, to support the rapid growth in the central Texas region. She is leading the planning efforts as part of the $4B Airport Expansion and Development Program, to discover and implement many innovative and sustainable projects.
“I’d like to challenge engineers and architects to think outside the box about the human element of design and shifting to center the passenger journey as projects move through the planning, design and construction process,” said Williams. “A sharper focus on designing world-class airports that simultaneously delivers projects with social impacts is something I’d like to see in the future. I think collaboration can extend to include focus groups that can speak on the impact design elements can have on all types of travelers, potentially making accessibility an innate part of the design and construction of future airports.”
Williams is a non-profit advocate in the community helping over 30 agencies and programs throughout the Austin area supporting initiatives to enhance education, well-being, safety, the arts, and the environment. She is a current board member for Austin-Bergstrom Landhost Enerprises (ABLE) a nonprofit public facility corporation created to act on the behalf of the City of Austin during the construction and improvements of the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.
