DFS Subsidiary to Take Over Tower Services at London Gatwick

A subsidiary of DFS, The Tower Company (TTC), will set up a new UK company to perform these services. Operations will start on 1 October 2015.

The DFS Group has been awarded the contract for the future provision of tower services at Gatwick Airport by the Board of Directors of Gatwick Airport Limited. A subsidiary of DFS, The Tower Company (TTC), will set up a new UK company to perform these services. Operations will start on 1 October 2015. The contract is expected to be signed at the end of July. The companies have agreed not to disclose the details of the deal.

Klaus-Dieter Scheurle, the CEO of DFS said: "With this contract, DFS is making its contribution to advancing the consolidation process in the European air navigation services landscape. We are pleased that the DFS Group has been awarded the contract for Gatwick Airport and are looking forward to providing safe and efficient air traffic control services with the Gatwick tower staff. The staff at Gatwick will transfer to the DFS subsidiary in close dialogue with the employees and their representatives and in keeping with our employee relations traditions."

DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the German air navigation service provider, is a State-owned company under private law and has about 6,000 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual flow of air traffic over Germany. Around 2,000 air traffic controllers guide up to 10,000 flights in German airspace every day, and about three million movements every year. This makes Germany the country with the highest traffic volume in Europe. The company operates control centres in Langen, Bremen, Karlsruhe and Munich as well as 16 control towers at international airports in Germany. In addition, DFS is represented at the EUROCONTROL Control Centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Additional business units are Aeronautical Solutions (Consulting) and Aeronautical Information Management.

The Tower Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, is headquartered in Langen near Frankfurt. The company offers air traffic services and associated services for airports.
