Pittsburgh Airport Reduces, Cuts Flights Amid Travel Restrictions
A number of flights from Pittsburgh International Airport have been cut amid travel restrictions and declines in demand as COVID-19 coronavirus concerns grow.
Service affected at this time includes:
Fewer United Airlines daily flights to San Francisco, Washington-Dulles International Airport, Newark-Liberty International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport. United Airlines is also ceasing its Pittsburgh-Phoenix flight beginning in June, as well as reducing service to Philadelphia.
Reduced Spirit Airlines nonstop routes to Los Angeles and cuts to two flights weekly to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Orlando.
Allegiant will stop flying between Pittsburgh and Punta Gorda, Florida.
Two fewer Air Canada Pittsburgh-Montreal flights. The airline is also cutting back on its Toronto-Pittsburgh service in April.
Reduced American Airlines' flights to Phoenix.
Cuts to JetBlue Airways daily flights to Boston.
Pittsburgh International Airport, alongside airports nationwide, are seeing a sharp decrease in demand as travel restrictions compound.
The Trump administration this week expressed support for a $850 billion stimulus plan to temper a possible recession caused by the coronavirus, including a roughly $54 billion proposal by Airlines For America — a trade group for passenger carriers — to help mitigate the decreased demand and outright bans.
Airport leadership expects more schedule changes in the coming weeks.
