Huntsville Airport Plans Party to Celebrate Top Ranking

March 3, 2020

You may have heard, amid the weeks-long celebration, that Huntsville International Airport in January was voted the nation’s best small airport.

Now the airport is ready to celebrate the celebration.

The airport announced registration arrangements for Saturday's shindig at the newly-opened Mars Music Hall at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville.

Local cover band Juice will perform at the event set for 7-10 p.m. There will be no admission charge.

The airport has taken advantage of the top ranking, which came via online voting as part of USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards. In particular, there was a social media push to attract the attention of Southwest Airlines to encourage beginning operations at the airport. Southwest was voted the nation’s best airline in the same online voting contest.

The airport has also used its new prominent platform to urge Huntsville area residents to stop driving (#StopTheDrive) to airports in Nashville or Birmingham – both of which are locations where Southwest operates – as the best way to lure the low-fare carrier to the Rocket City.

The airport said that registration will close after 1,500 people sign up because of the capacity of the music hall, "so please only register if you are sure that you can attend the event."

“This party is recommended for adults and no children’s activities will take place, however, future ‘Pop-Up’ parties will cater to children and families," the airport said.

Non-alcoholic drinks will be available at no charge and there will be a cash bar available.

The airport also said parking will be available in Lot V on the west side of North Hall and attendees should tell parking attendants that you are attending the airport event at Mars Music Hall.
