Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria Opens in Detroit Metropolitan Airport

May 9, 2019

The family-owned and local Detroit Italian food destination, Cantoro Italian Market, is now open in Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s North Terminal pre-security baggage claim area at Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria. Global restaurateur HMSHost recently opened the new market and trattoria, featuring authentic Italian products and scratch made dishes, with partners AJA & Associates, LLC and Ellis Infinity. The location marks the first opening of the airport’s new food and beverage program and features the products and freshly-made, high quality Italian food Detroit-area residents have come to enjoy in their neighborhoods.

“HMSHost and our partners are thrilled to work with the Wayne County Airport Authority to bring Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria to Detroit Metropolitan Airport,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Kent Vanden Oever. “Not only does Cantoro bring a sense of Detroit into the airport, it brings the best of a long-standing Italian corner store and family restaurant with a modern twist for people to enjoy in the airport’s pre-security area.”

“My family is pleased to expand the Cantoro Italian Market & Trattoria dining experience to the weary traveler on the go,” said Cantoro co-owner Michael Fallone. “We are excited to now offer delicious, hearty, healthy, fresh and authentic grab-and-go meals and snacks to at DTW. Being on the move or in a hurry does not mean anyone should have to surrender a desire for high quality food. We are happy to be a destination stop at the airport and give people something to look forward with our fantastic panini, sandwiches, salads and more. We are excited to help change the way travelers eat when arriving or departing from the airport through offering top quality Italian food.”

Travelers and DTW guests can enjoy eating Cantoro’s signature recipes with all of the options you could ever want from an Italian market and trattoria including a range of pizzas, pastas, salads, soups, and sandwiches and wraps. Cantoro’s dishes are all medleys of fresh ingredients; the farfalle primavera is made with grape tomatoes, fresh basil, yellow squash, red onion, bell pepper, and olive oil along with farfalle pasta.

A shot of espresso or a French vanilla latte while your baggage gets delivered is the perfect way to recharge before heading out to ground transportation and off on your Motor City journey. The option to stay a little longer and enjoy a cannoli, slice of tiramisu, or other daily assorted Cantoro baked goods is available too, making the coffee taste that much better. Or, if it is still early, breakfast croissants, muffins, and burritos are available until 10:30 a.m.

In addition to dining in or taking something to go, the modern corner store-meets-old world Italian market makes this a convenient stop to pick up genuine Cantoro sauce by the pint (marinara, palomino, or alfredo), a box of pasta, or bottle of olive oil on the way out of the airport for dinner later or as a gift. Other local specialties like eggplant rolantini and Italian meatballs can also be packed up to go.

Cantoro is a family-owned and operated market and restaurant with a 40-plus year history of a commitment to quality and serving delectable food to Detroit area residents. MLive voted Cantoro best Italian market in Metro Detroit many times.

The Wayne County Airport Authority previously awarded global restaurateur HMSHost, AJA & Associates, LLC, and Ellis Infinity a 10-year contract to operate nine new dining options in Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s North Terminal. A list of existing HMSHost-operated locations at DTW is available on the HMSHost location finder map.
