Man Got Onto Albany International Airport Runway, Into Plane Cockpit Early Monday, Sheriff Says
May 24—COLONIE — A Bronx man broke through a fence, onto the Albany International Airport runway and eventually into an unoccupied plane's cockpit early Monday, Albany County Sheriff's officials said.
He was finally apprehended after he left the cockpit, entered the gate boarding area and was stopped by a TSA agent, officials said.
Stan D. Johnson, 23, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree criminal trespass, misdemeanors, officials said.
Deputies first responded to the airport at around 3:25 a.m. for reports of a person on the secure side of the airport without authorization. Airport deputies and TSA agents then located Johnson, officials said.
Johnson had been spotted by a TSA agent on the secure side of the airport. Further investigation revealed that Johnson got in by breaching an airport security fence.
Johnson then walked through the runway area until he entered a jet way bridge. He then got into the unoccupied aircraft and into its cockpit, officials said. A release did not describe the aircraft further.
Johnson then left the aircraft and went up the jet way, into the gate boarding area, where he was stopped by the agent, officials said.
Johnson was released on appearance tickets to appear in court later.
