Two Transportation Security Administration officers are on administrative leave after a noose containing two stuffed monkeys was found hanging in a non-public part of the passenger screening area at Miami International Airport.

The item was discovered by a female TSA agent about a week ago, according to WFOR-TV, the CBS affiliate in Miami. A photo was also posted on an Instagram page, “Black People of the Gram,” of the noose, hanging from the ceiling, with two stuffed monkeys attached, CBS reported.

It was taken down immediately after the employee reported it to TSA management, according to a statement from the agency.

“An offensive display was discovered in a TSA baggage screening area located in the non-public side of Miami International Airport,” the agency said in its statement. “The display was immediately removed and an investigation was launched into who was responsible for the unacceptable behavior. TSA does not tolerate racist or offensive behavior and those found responsible will be held accountable for their actions.”

The agency confirmed that two TSA officers are on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said that although TSA agents don’t work for the local government, he was glad that the TSA was taking action.

“I’m aware of the offensive item found in TSA baggage area at MIA and pleased TSA took quick action to identify those responsible & place them on leave, as investigation gets underway,” he said in a tweet. “Although TSA workers are not employees of Miami-Dade, our county has zero tolerance for racism.”

The airport also distanced itself from the incident.

“MIA does not condone offensive behavior or materials of any kind,” the airport said on Twitter. “This display was discovered in an area managed and staffed by TSA in the airport. The TSA is addressing this issue with their employees.”
