Boise Airport has opened its new $107-million consolidated rental car center, completing another major component of the airport’s multiyear BOI Upgrade capital improvement program.

The seven-story facility includes nearly 1,280 rental car spaces, a 20,000-square-foot customer service building and an approximately 4,000-square-foot enclosed passenger walkway connecting the center with the terminal.

Construction began in February 2024. HDR Engineering and Demattei Wong Architecture served as the design team, with McAlvain Construction as construction manager/general contractor.

The new facility significantly expands Boise Airport’s rental car capacity. The airport previously provided about 350 rental car parking spaces. The new garage includes nearly 980 ready-return spaces on its first six levels and storage for nearly 300 additional vehicles on the seventh level.

Moving rental car operations from their former location also clears space west of the terminal for the airport’s planned Concourse A expansion.

The rental car center is part of BOI Upgrade, Boise Airport’s multiyear program to expand and modernize infrastructure as passenger traffic continues to grow. Other projects include new public and employee parking facilities, an expanded aircraft parking apron, utility improvements and the future Concourse A.

Plans for Concourse A call for as many as 10 additional gates. The airport has already completed a new apron south of the planned concourse, including approximately 148,000 square feet of concrete apron and 111,000 square feet of asphalt apron.

The rental car project was financed in part through $86 million in airport revenue bonds issued in 2024. Those bonds are expected to be repaid with revenue generated by the rental car facility rather than local tax dollars.
