TAP Air Portugal will relocate its John F. Kennedy International Airport operations to the new Terminal 6, joining a growing group of international carriers set to operate from the facility when its first phase opens in 2026.

The airline, which has served the New York market for more than 50 years, currently operates daily nonstop service between JFK and Lisbon. Its operations will continue as normal until the planned transition later this year.

Terminal 6 is part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion redevelopment of JFK, designed to modernize the airport with new terminals, expanded facilities and improved ground access.

TAP will join a mix of Star Alliance partners and international carriers already committed to the terminal, including Air Canada, Lufthansa, SWISS and ANA, alongside JetBlue as a key domestic partner.

The new terminal is designed as a boutique, digital-first experience, featuring short walking distances from security to gates, biometric-enabled processing, and an expanded mix of dining, retail and passenger amenities.

Construction is underway in phases, with initial gates opening in 2026 and full completion expected by 2028.
