San Antonio Opens Terminal A Expansion to Boost Capacity

San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has opened its Terminal A ground expansion, adding new capacity and operational flexibility as passenger demand continues to rise.

The expansion includes new ground-load gates, expanded passenger areas and a federal inspection station to support international arrivals. A key feature is the ground-load facility, which allows passengers to board aircraft at ground level, increasing gate efficiency and enabling the airport to accommodate more aircraft.

Airport officials said the added capacity will help airlines expand service while improving passenger flow through Terminal A.

The project is part of the airport’s broader ELEVATE/SAT capital program, aimed at supporting long-term growth and strengthening the region’s connectivity. The initiative represents the largest infrastructure investment undertaken by the City of San Antonio.

In addition to capacity gains, the expansion incorporates accessibility-focused design elements, including sensory-friendly spaces such as quiet rooms and low-stimulation areas to improve the passenger experience.

The development comes as SAT continues to grow, now serving more than 10 million passengers annually and ranking among the fastest-growing mid-sized airports in the United States.
