Yuma International Airport Deploys Self-Service Indoor Navigation Platform
Yuma International Airport has implemented a new indoor navigation platform from GoodMaps, becoming the first airport to deploy the company’s Scan & Go technology and demonstrating a self-managed approach to digital wayfinding for regional airports.
The platform allows airport staff to create and maintain interactive, multilingual terminal maps using smartphones, eliminating the need for external surveyors and reducing both cost and implementation timelines. Airport officials said the approach gives YUM greater control over deployment, updates, and long-term maintenance.
“As GoodMaps’ first Scan & Go airport, we’re demonstrating that regional airports can independently deliver advanced navigation and accessibility solutions,” said Gladys Brown, airport director at Yuma International Airport. “This model allows us to control costs and timelines while improving the passenger experience.”
The system supports audio navigation for blind and low-vision travelers, accessible routing for passengers using mobility devices, visual guidance for deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers, and directions in more than 18 languages. Maps are accessible through standard web browsers, requiring no app download, and can be updated in real time by airport staff as terminal conditions change.
Airport officials said the deployment establishes a scalable framework for regional airports seeking to improve accessibility and wayfinding without undertaking complex infrastructure upgrades or lengthy procurement processes. The model is intended to be adaptable as terminal layouts evolve or services change.
The GoodMaps mobile application is available for iOS and Android devices.
