Piedmont Airport Receives Grant on Aircraft Noise
GUILFORD COUNTY — The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority has received a $1.9 million grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation to continue with its program to limit the impact of aircraft noise on residences near the airport.
The grant was announced by the office of U.S. Rep. Ted Budd, R-13th, whose congressional district includes Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The airport authority began a program 11 years ago when the FedEx Corp. cargo hub opened to lessen the intrusion of aircraft noise on residents near the two main PTIA runways. The noise mitigation has included buying some homes and paying to soundproof others in northernmost High Point, western Greensboro and southwestern Guilford County.
