Officials at Oakland International Airport May 31, released April traffic results, revealing that total passengers at the airport increased 12.8 percent, from 941,248 in April 2016, reaching 1,061,616 passengers in April. The increase is based upon 8.5 percent more seats. Load factor, the percentage of seats occupied by revenue passengers, increased by more than three points.

Passenger traffic is expected to continue to increase as new airline activity takes off. Among the new routes and flights contributing to April's growth: a brand new, 4-times weekly nonstop flight to London’s Gatwick Airport which commenced March 28, on British Airways. On the same day, Norwegian added Copenhagen, completing the “triple crown” of Scandinavian cities now reachable with nonstop service from OAK, along with Oslo and Stockholm.

Francis. “New international and domestic markets reflect confidence in OAK from both our customers and airline partners, alike.
