Kansas Company Plans To Buy, Consolidate Two Operations at Meadows Field
Two fixed-based operators at Meadows Field Airport are being sold to a Kansas-based company that plans to combine and rename them Freeman Jet Center at Meadows Field Airport.
A joint news release Friday from Bakersfield-based Loyd’s Aviation and Freeman Holdings Group, based in Overland Park, Kan., said the latter has agreed to two Loyd’s locations in Kern County, along with Epic Jet Center at Meadows Field. The other local Loyd’s operation is in Delano.
“Consolidating two FBOs has been an opportunity we’ve looked at for years, and the timing and circumstances finally came together to make it happen,” Loyd’s CEO Steve Loyd said in the release.
“It’s a bittersweet decision after 68 years of our family operating at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, but we’re proud of the legacy we’re handing off to the Freeman family, and we’re genuinely excited to see Freeman Jet Center grow.”
Epic Jet Center did not respond to a request for comment Friday.
An operations consultant for Loyd’s, Kelly Pieczonka, said by email the same group of employees that has run the company’s day-to-day operations in Oildale and Delano will remain in place and ensure customers’ experience “remains seamless throughout the transition.”
“We don’t anticipate any disruption to our customers,” she wrote. “We’re grateful for our customers’ years of loyalty and trust in Loyd’s Aviation.”
Freeman CEO Scott Freeman said in the release that his company is honored to carry forward the Loyd’s legacy and grateful for its trust.
“The opportunity to bring the Loyd’s Aviation and Epic Jet Center operations together under the Freeman umbrella gives us an exciting opportunity to strengthen the FBO experience at Meadows Field while continuing to serve the aviation community that has supported these businesses for generations.”
The Loyd’s transaction is expected to close next month. It will become Freeman’s 26th FBO, according to the release; it owns and operates 15 Million Air franchise locations and eight Freeman Jet Centers. The company also has an ownership stake in two ACI Jet locations, in San Luis Obispo and Santa Ana.
Loyd’s, now in its third generation of family ownership, said the deal will allow it to give full attention to its location in Paso Robles.
